Exploring the benefits of Diosmin tablets for circulatory health

ConceptsPharmaceuticals

Flavonoids are plant compounds with antioxidant properties that protect your body from inflammation and unstable molecules called free radicals. Diosmin was first isolated from the fig herb plant (Scrophularia nodosa L.) and has been used as a natural remedy to treat varicose veins, venous insufficiency, haemorrhoids and other circulatory disorders since 1969.

Exploring sustainable options can bring positive outcomes for the pharmaceutical industry. Several strategies such as modification of existing manufacturing processes, use of greener excipients, and better in silico and in vitro testing and predictive models can help to achieve various sustainability goals. Here, we have successfully replaced a multi-stage granulation process with simplified methods like moisture-activated dry granulation (MADG) and slugging.

The high dosage and the micronized nature of diosmin lead many manufacturers towards using high shear granulation (HSG), which is cumbersome, as the end point of granulation is difficult to determine and there are issues with drying. In this formulation, we use a coarser non-micronized diosmin (NM) via moisture-activated wet granulation (MADG) as an alternative to classic high shear granulation.
